Melody Kay White, reading education instructor, cattle ranch owner and 30-year motorcycling veteran
TWO DOT, MT, February 22, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ --Melody Kay White, Owner of Two Dot Reading Clinic and McFarland White Ranch, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in reading instruction.
Melody Kay White enjoys a peaceful and fulfilling existence as the co-owner of McFarland White Ranch, which she has operated with her husband since 1977. In existence since 1902, the former McFarland Brothers Ranch was renamed when Mrs. White's parents-in-law married in 1932 and assumed ownership. The fully equipped working ranch includes 13 guest houses with more than 100 rooms and offers a relaxing getaway in the mountains of Montana. Mrs. White handles the business operations, which include running the office and overseeing building maintenance.
When she is not in the countryside tending to the ranch and Crazy Mountain Lodge, Mrs. White is in charge of the Two Dot Reading Clinic, where she organizes workshops, instructs reading teachers and consults with teachers on intervention techniques and performed assessments. The clinic provides treatment for reading, spelling, writing, and comprehension disorders as well as other learning disabilities. It grew from a love of reading that Mrs. White credits her grandmother with bringing into her life. Later experiences made such an impact on her that she made it a priority in her life to share that joy of reading with others. She has since taught many children who are far behind and enabled them to succeed throughout her 33-year career. Teachers will call Mrs. White with specific problems that students are having and ask about intervention techniques that could be appropriate for that particular student. "After speaking with the teacher, if the problem persists, I will go to the location and help administer tests to see exactly where the problem is," she says.
In contrast to the relaxing ranch setting, Mrs. White gives life a thrilling edge by racing motorcycles and sprint cars, which she has owned for more than 30 years. More in keeping with her love of nature, she is a bird watcher.
Mrs. White has served as a judge for the National FFA (Future Farmers of America) Organization and 4-H. She is also a member of the National Cattlemen's Beef Association and the International Reading Association. She earned a master's degree in reading from Montana State University Billings in 2002 and a bachelor of science in kindergarten through 12th-grade education in 1976, also from Montana State University Billings. In 2008, Mrs. White received an award for being on the hospital board for 11 years and serving as chairman for two years. This year, Ms White was honored by Cambridge Who's Who as its "Professional of the Year in Cattle Ranching and Hospitality" and featured in "Cambridge Publishing's 101 Top Industry Experts," which highlights the lives and accomplishments of its top professionals.
