Life Irrigation Irrigate Award Winning Irish Sky Garden at the 2011 RHS Chelsea Flower Show
North London- and Hertfordshire-based Irrigation Company asked to irrigate Diarmuid Gavini's design for third year running.

LONDON, ENGLAND, June 17, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- One of the UK's leading providers of garden, drip and pop up irrigation were proud to irrigate Diarmuid Gavin's design for the RHS Chelsea Flower Show which achieved the People's Choice for Large Gardens Award and was his first gold award in this competition.

The RHS Chelsea Flower Show is the world's most famous flower show which is held annually by the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) in the grounds of the Royal Hospital, Chelsea, London. The event showcases the world's best horticultural gardens and flower displays featuring top garden designers, nurseries and experts. 2011 brought the 98th annual celebration of the event, and included The Irish Sky Garden scooping a gold award.

Life Irrigation set up an irrigation system for the whole of the 130ft x 50ft Irish Sky Show Garden, which meant that they installed the tank, pump and computer in a temporary station, ensuring the equipment could produce a sufficient amount of water pressure to irrigate the entirety of the huge show garden. The pod, which was part of the show garden, was then lifted 82 ft up in to the air by crane for onlookers to admire.

When the pod arrived on the site it was nothing more than framework which had to be constructed to create the wonderful masterpiece. The design gradually came to life as the heart of it was planted in a country garden style, before grass was added to the roof and base.

Life Irrigation was challenged with ensuring the upper lawn of the pod was watered from above, and then ensuring that all plants underneath the pod were watered. This was brought about by experimenting with pop up sprinklers, before 40 hidden John Deere misters were installed to cover the roof of the pod, thus achieving the correct level of watering.

All work was carried out as discreetly as possible, meaning there was a need to ensure the garden was fully irrigated, with no sign of any of any equipment in place. This involved painting sections pink to disguise it within the pink framework of the pod.

Subtlety is an important part of the strict judging criteria, as all garden designs have to be at the highest level of perfection.

During the event, the Daily Mirror asked Gavin for his inspiration behind the Irish Sky Garden: "it had a bit of magic - it was a strange concoction of Avatar, Willy Wonka and the very green Irish landscape."
